Michael Perham has successfully broken the World Record and become the youngest person to circumnavigate the World single handed
We are delighted to confirm that Michael Perham has successfully broken the World Record and become the youngest person to circumnavigate the World single handed.
The highlights of this achievement are that Michael was 17 years, 164 days of age when he completed the 30,000 mile record breaking trip at 0947 hours on Thursday 27 August 2009.
To put the record in perspective this is some two months faster than the record set by an American teenager Zac Sunderland just over two months ago.
Having broken the record just South of the Lizard on Thursday, Michael made his way back to Gunwarf Quays, Portsmouth, which was the scene of departure in November last year.
Michael arrived at Gunwarf Quays at 1100 hours on Saturday, 29 August 2009 to a fanfare of naval ships, public interest and media coverage.
The Graham High Group Limited, Managing Director, Graham, was one of the few who was granted access to the pontoon arrival area and he was able to congratulate Michael on his magnificent feat shortly after his arrival.
Graham commented that “Michael was extremely composed bearing in mind his long period of absence and the success he has achieved and was very enigmatic when suggesting that he had further expeditions planned!”
Following the extensive press and television interest in Michaels voyage and success, it has also been confirmed that Channel 4 have commissioned a TV documentary as part of the Cutting Edge series, which is likely to be entitled “Dangerous Seas for Boys” and is likely to be broadcasted on Channel 4 in November 2009.
This brings to an end our involvement in the Sail Mike experience which has been an honour and a privilege for all at Graham High Group Limited.
